Musicscan: Did you expect the kind of success you received with your first album? How has the band developed on a personal basis since then?
The Coral: We have become even closer from constant touring, exploring even more music.
Musicscan: Please tell me a little bit about growing up in Holyake? How did it influence your music and your decision to pursue music "professionally?"
The Coral: Nothing else to do!! Left to discover everything without any interference!
Musicscan: How was working with Ian Broudie and what impact did he have on the album?
The Coral: Really good, he is like a leash.
Musicscan: Where do you see the biggest differences between your debut album and "Magic & Medicine?"
The Coral: A bit more relaxed.
Musicscan: The new album sounds a bit more song focused and even more "traditional" in many ways. Would you agree? What artists, not necessarily limited to music influence you and your work with The Coral?
The Coral: Everything music/film/art. Scott Walker/Can/Kraftwerk/Love/Miles Davis/Jim Carey/Dylan Thomas.
Musicscan: How did you first get in touch with music (parents, music education, friends etc)?
The Coral: Friends
Musicscan: In some ways your music to me is somewhat reminiscent of the 70's. Do you feel any special connection with that era? Are you fascinated by it in some way?
The Coral: No, we just make music. This album sounds nothing like the first and our third will sound nothing like this.
Musicscan: Why didn't you enjoy college? I have heard you all dropped out pretty quickly. Was there ever a thought of combining academics and music?
The Coral: No time for school, just wanted to play music.
Musicscan: Did Blur ask you to support them on their European tour or how did that all come about?
The Coral: James met Damon in a petrol station and he asked us to support him.
Musicscan: Please describe an average day in your life when not on tour.
The Coral: No average days. Never know where I am from one day to the next. It's all work.
Musicscan: Three all time favourite records?
The Coral: Changes every day.
Musicscan: Any last words or comments?
The Coral: Never trust a hippy. |
